My Thinking and Planning

My Resources

Design and Technologies

This blog has been created as a collation of teacher resources linking to the Australian Curriculum’s Foundation to Year 2 Design and Technologies strand. The collation of resources will align with the following content descriptor and elaboration taken from Design and Technologies Knowledge and Understanding – content descriptor: Explore how plants and animals are grown for food, clothing and shelter and how food is selected and prepared healthily ACTDEK003 and elaborations: exploring the tools, equipment and techniques used to prepare food safely and hygienically for healthy eating & considering the suitability of a range of tools when cultivating gardens, mulching and building garden structures and preparing and cooking food from recipes (ACARA, 2015).

Digital Technologies

The second resource will be an interactive resource that teachers can use within the classroom through the use of PREZI. It will contain a mini collation of digital resources and design brief that will address the Year 2 Digital Technologies Knowledge and Understanding – content descriptor: Recognise and explore patterns in data and represent data in pictures, symbols and diagrams ACTDIK002 and elaborations: making generalisations about data sets, for example comparing different ways of travelling to and from school using classroom data, discussing results and finding patterns in modes of travel; sorting objects and events based on easily identified characteristics and using digital systems to represent patterns in data, for example sorting birthdates and presenting the patterns using seasonal symbols experimenting with different ways of representing patterns, for example using materials, sounds, movements or drawing.

Hopefully these resources will be found useful for my own teaching career and for others

EDP4130

Hello fellow bloggers!

I am currently in the process of creating a new page on my blog that is for EDP4130 – Technology Curriculum and Pedagogy.

Please click on the menu dropdown to find all of my blog posts regarding Digital Technologies – Foundation to Year 2 from the Australian Curriculum.

I hope to share some interactive ideas with you that you can use inside and outside of the classroom to facilitate and cater for all learning needs within the classroom.

Coming to an end…

Well I tell you what, I am so ready for the end of semester holidays! It has been one very long, tiring and exhausting semester! I am very glad it is all coming to a close. Bring on the holidays!

I have finished my final assignment and I am happy with how it went. Although it was very stressful as I lost all of my work on my USB and spent the long weekend assignmenting. I was such a zombie and I tell you what, I was so happy to make progress and finish it off.

I have learnt a lot during this course and I can say that the knowledge that I have gained will definitely help me in future practices, pracs and teaching. Check out the blog ‘The Chronicle’s of a (Pre-service) teacher’s blog as she also has a different view on how to integrate ICT’s into lessons. There are so many great benefits to using ICT and I will endeavour to incorporate them to support students learning as much as possible.

Kathleen‘s post is a lovely farewell to the teaching team of EDC3100 and I completely agree with her. Thank you everyone for your help and support over the semester and I wish you all luck for your future studies!!

Farewell!!

Queensland Day & Last day of Prac

ImageMy final day of prac was Queensland Day! The day started off with a large mass with all three campuses of the school for a tree planting ceremony that was happening in all Lutheran schools across the state. It was great to be able to sit with the Grade 1 & 2’s and put my teacher voice on. The students were wonderful, they sat and listened well and even enjoyed themselves! After the ceremony we had early morning tea, followed by the annual Queensland Day TUG of WAR!! What a fun activity! All of the school participated and each age group fought against each others houses to see who the winning house was at the end of the day. It was so great to watch, the kids put in so much effort, using as much strength as they could to get over the line! So much fun. It was all running smoothly until the grade 5’s had a turn.. BANG, the rope snapped, everyone fell over!! The rope was not the normal rope they use so it was an old fraying one and unfortunately the day had to be postponed because of safety reasons and the fact that the Grade 5’s were just too strong!!

After that my mentor and I heading to the other campus to run off relay races for the upcoming athletics carnival. The students were all great and teachers all helped out which made it run smoothly. After that we did the same thing at the main campus I was at and again with all of the teachers help the afternoon ran smoothly with everyone having fun! I am returning for two days to help my mentor with the running of the two athletics days.

What a great way to finish off my prac. 🙂

Check out what Mrs Brown did for her QLD day!

What I know about EDC3100 Professional Experience

Thanks to Amy for posting her blog ‘What I know about EDC3100 Professional Experience.

Wow, what an exhausting three weeks. My routine was thrown out of whack for these three weeks, starting at 4am every morning and finishing at 7pm (because of work and prac commitments). At first I was very sceptical about this being a return prac and I was honestly not wanting to go at all. The first week was tiring and long but it was great to get back to the school, meet with the teachers and get to know the students. My school days began at 7:30am and finished between 3-5pm depending on after school training. My feet hurt, my head hurt and I needed a rest. Following my mentor around was exhausting. BUT… I got through. I had a wonderful experience and looking back upon those three weeks, I actually enjoyed myself. Having to leave on the Friday afternoon after having such a wonderful day and getting to know the students made me quite sad.
MY mentor and I tried very hard to incorporate ICT’s into the learning experiences however this proved to be quite difficult when outside for every lesson. We did use it at times and used it for assessment etc. From receiving great feedback, I look forward to finishing off the semester on a high and bring on the holidays!

Thanks for a great experience prac. See you again soon!

As posted in the ‘What do you know about Professional Experience’ forumn on the 12th of May

The EDC3100 prac is 15 days long, on week 1 the pre-service teacher is expected to teach for 1/3 of the day. By week 2 the pre-service teacher is expected to teach for 1/2 of the day moving to 2/3 of the day by week 3 with at least one full day. A copy of the lesson plan template is in the Assignment 3 folder. Five of the ICT-rich lessons implemented on Professional Experience need to submitted be  for Assignment 3. The pre-service teacher is expected to be at school and participating in an activities the mentor teacher does this would include cross country training at 7:30am. The pre-service teacher needs to gather feedback at the end of every lesson, every day and every week. Some of the feedback should be verbal…

Bloom!

Image

While working on my final assignment for EDC3100 I came across this table that helps pre-service teachers align Bloom’s taxonomy while integrating ICT’s. I love this table because it shows you so many different resources that could be used with students in a classroom to work through Bloom’s lower and higher order thinking skills. Even though my practical experience was Health and Physical Education, I can see that this table would hold a lot of value in the classroom. Another great resource for Bloom’s Taxonomy was found on Kylie’s blog. She has found another great tool that can be used with IPads. I also love this idea because IPads are so commonly used in schools now and again helps teachers to easily access and pinpoint resources that can be used.
